No , A Gifted Man leave behind me aggrieve because its full damn serial publication premise was done before in an 83 - bit repulsion photographic film . I am , of course , referring to Sidney Poitier ’s 1990 tour de force Ghost Dad .
Now , nobody in their right mind would greenlight a television set serial ground onGhost Dad . Why ? Because that film was too scary . For those of you who have never ascertain Ghost Dad , find deprived . You ’re an outsider to a very specific religious order of motion-picture fan . Once you see Ghost Dad , you could not unsee Ghost Dad .

Here ’s the plot — Patrick Wilson plays Michael Holt , a douchebag millionaire neurosurgeon who sprint when he jogs to enshroud an inner sorrow . I honestly ca n’t see how A Gifted Man could meliorate when stretched out into a full - length serial . All of the major plot points are already telegraphed . Michael ’s inevitable dejerkifying ? tick off . Anna and Michael ’s rekindle , ectoplasmic romance ? Check . His increasing unsuitability for piece of work because everyone thinks he ’s unbalanced ? Oh yeah .
Also , we learn from some novel Age priest-doctor dude that Michael can exorcize Anna whenever he wants , thereby gutting any tension about her harassing him à la Swayze and Whoopi . None of this makes for a watchable series in the recollective - term . A watched serial perhaps , as it ’s on CBS and masses zone out toall sorts of deranged papover there .

So yeah , why did n’t CBS just farm a Ghost Dad series ? That picture show had most of the same story musical rhythm ( workaholic phratry extremity , trace , salvation , camera shots of buildings and motorcar ) and the make - name recognition audiences lust . Future review of A Gifted Man may admit tag - squad reviews with Fenris Paragon III in which I ask him to explain the show . sprightliness has hand me lemons , and I may as well build a dreadful citrus golem out of them .
