Ugh , love songs are so sappy , right ? Usually ! But every once in a while there ’s a glorious elision . Something full - to - bursting with a vital sonority . Something earnest and cute without being feeble . costly and the Headlights ’ “ I Just Do ” is one of those call .

Off the band ’s fantastic 2007 debutSmall Steps , Heavy Hooves , “ I Just Do ” is an up - tempo indie folk music jam with a lyric focus on the little thing , the marvellous things . The sonic equivalent of that fluttering you get in your pectus when s / he looked at you , smiling , across ice ointment sundaes at the Friendly ’s your parent drove you to when you were in 8th grade .

In fact , the whole record album is great , featuring other tunes I ’ve rant and raved about like “ It ’s Gettin ’ Easy . ” Unfortunately these guys break up way back when , which tote up a form of semisweet tinge to the whole thing , but I still love this song .
