Destiny 2has plans to recognize those who have playedDestiny 1in a special way within the game itself, according to the game’s director Luke Smith. Developer Bungie has already shown off some of the rewards coming for veteran players thatwill come in the form of emblemsthat are earned based on the activity and achievements of fans who played the first game. But this is something else.
What exactly it is, Smith is keeping coy. Presumably, this is to allow players to discover this special something whenDestiny 2launches on September 6:
“‘How is Bungie going to remember that we playedDestiny 1?’ We have something we’re planning. We’re not going to talk about it. I’m not going to spoil it here. But when the game comes out on September 6, you’ll find out for yourself what I’m talking about. […] You’re going to enter the world a little differently than people who didn’t play [Destiny 1].”
There’s only one qualifier to being able to experience whatever this fan recognition ends up being—players will need to buy and playDestiny 2on the same platform where they playedDestiny 1. In other words, someone who playedDestiny 1on PS4 will have to be using the same PSN account forDestiny 2to recognize the history of playing the first game. In the same way, those who have played on Xbox One will need to still be playing on Xbox One.
If fans have purchased a new console or upgraded to aPS4 Proor Xbox One X, for example, they will still experience it as long as they use the same PSN or Xbox Live account. That does mean, however, that this secret fan service will not exist on PC, sinceDestiny 2will be the franchise’s maiden voyage on that platform.
Keep an eye open when the game comes out next week for this special surprise that Bungie has in store for fans who playedDestiny 1.
