The Lunar New Year event starts with the Lunar New Year and runs from Wednesday, January 29, at 10:00 a.m. to Sunday, June 19, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. local time.

All of these Pokémon can be shiny. Additionally, the chances of encountering a Shiny Ekans will be increased during the event.

There will also be special 2 km Eggs during the event.
Once again, all of these Pokémon can be shiny when hatched from an Egg. There will be boosted odds of hatching a Shiny Nosepass from these Eggs.
Other event details and paid Timed Research
As is standard in Pokémon GO, the Lunar New Year event will feature event-themed Field Research, event-themed Timed Research as well as PokéStop Showcases and a Collection Challenge.
