Shenmue 3, Deep Silver’s third entry in the long-running action-adventure series, is out now, following protagonist Ryo Hazuki as he journeys into the mountains of China in pursuit of his father’s killer. Just like the previous titles in its series,Shenmue 3is a game of many parts, with elements of combat, exploration, socializing and puzzle-solving all built around a classic martial arts story.

As critics have been quick to point out in theirShenmue 3reviews, the game far from fast-paced, and the last of its elements, puzzle-solving, can often bring the story to a grinding halt. A particularly difficult puzzle fairly early in the plot is given by Elder Yeh, who requires players to solve a puzzle in the nearby Bell Tower before she’ll reveal what she knows about the Verdant Bridge.

Finding the Tokens

To begin the Bell Tower puzzle first players must find six tokens that are concealed within Elder Yeh’s house. The tokens themselves are actually quite difficult to find in the Elder’s rather cluttered house, an old lady who has clearly read our guide tomaking money inShenmue 3, so here’s where they’re all located:

Matching Them Up

Once players have acquired all six tokens, they’ll need to head up to the Bell Tower itself, which should be easy to identify at this stage in the game’s16-25 hour-long story. There they’ll find six pillars marked with different symbols. These don’t match the symbols on the tokens, but are in fact opposites.

Once all the tokens have been used, players need to head upstairs and turn the centerpiece to complete the puzzle. The wooden centerpiece needs to be turned in a specific order, which is Left, Left, Left, Right, Right, Right, Left, Left. With the final turn a cutscene will play, and the puzzle will be complete, leaving players free to unwind with some sparring, or in thenew fishing minigame.

Shenmue 3is available now for the PC and PlayStation 4.
