WithMonster Hunter Worldhaving received near-universal acclaim from fans and critics alike –our own reviewof the game is overwhelmingly positive, for instance – one might be under the impression that the title doesn’t have as much inadequate content as usual to provide enough fodder to fill out an Honest Trailer. Despite this, the team over at Smosh Games was able to make it work all the same by using the action-RPG’s strengths as source material for some pretty hilarious jokes and gags.

As seen below in the Honest Trailer forMonster Hunter World, Smosh Games' humor is immediately on point, introducing the action-RPG as a product “from the people that brought you evil houses [Resident Evil],streets that fight [Street Fighter],and crying devils [Devil May Cry]” that has been born out of a “series about a Japanese Jurassic Park.” From there, Smosh comments on the various absurdities ofMHW, including its “insanely oversized weapons,” “bad ass cat friends,” and complicated operations at players' home bases “which basically feels like doing your taxes.”

WhileMonster Hunter World’s Honest Trailer definitely has plenty of laugh out loud moments, as usual, some of the best jokes come at the end of the video, with the narrator giving the rundown of who is “starring” in the game. In this case, Smosh focuses on the action-RPG’s glut of exotic beasts andElder Dragonsas the starring roles, giving each of the creatures increasingly silly names, with one of our personal favorites being “Jay Leno’s Return to Late Night.”

Although Smosh Games' Honest Trailers typically highlight the flaws found within most newly released video games and pokes fun at them, the majority of the jokes aboutMonster Hunter Worldrely on fans' understanding of the enjoyably ridiculous nature of the gameplay inherent in the title. Should one want to see Smosh go in hard against a game, though, they would do well to check outStar Wars Battlefront 2’s Honest Trailer.

Monster Hunter Worldis available now for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and will launch in fall 2018 for PC.
