The COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic has impacted a number of games currently in development. Thankfully, a recent statement fromActivision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotickindicates that most Activision Blizzard games are still on-track, but that may not hold in the distant future.
ActivisionBlizzard CEO Kotick sat down for an interview with CNBC to talk about the impact the coronavirus has had on the business. Thankfully, with its employees working from home for now, few of them have come down with the coronavirus, and according to Kotick, “Most of the things that we have in production and development are on track for now.”

However, he also noted that the company would need to reevaluate at the one and three-month mark. Furthermore, he added, “…I think it’s still too early to know what the consequences [on] development will be for the next year or so.”
The uncertainty makes sense, considering that even government officials aren’t entirely certain when thecoronavirus lockdownwill end. If it continues through May or even June, it could definitely have an impact on games further down the pipeline.
While games and TV streaming services are helping to get people through the social isolation period, there could be a considerable gap in releases in the future because of so many productions being delayed due to it being unsafe to work together. Only time will tell if any major Activision Blizzard games get delayed, but if they do, it’s certainly not the only company to seegames delayed by the coronavirus.
