SSSniperWolf and Jacksfilms have been engaged in a dispute regarding SSSniperWolf’s content type, mostly reaction videos. Since October 2022, Jacksfilms has zeroed in on SSSniperWolf’s videos. Over the last few months, Jackfilms created a parody channel focused around the female content creator, and accused her of stealing content and creating non-transformative commentary on the videos.

This ultimately led to adoxxing incident, where SSSniperWolf posted a recording of Jacksfilm' house on Instagram. She received a huge backlash from the online community, with demands YouTube take her off their platform.

YouTube puts SSSniperWolf under temporary monetization suspension

During the six days before YouTube’s final response, the online community kept pressuring YouTube to take action against SSSniperWolf. On October 21, YouTube replied to Jacksfilms on X.

It stated how SSSniperWolf has received a temporary monetization suspension according to the Creator Responsibility policy. YouTube went on to explain how any actions outside of YouTube that put others' personal safety at risk are harmful to the community. The response ends with YouTube saying that “the behavior from both creators isn’t what we want on YouTube”.

Sssniperwolf’s apology statement is only available on SSSniperWolf’s X page, which is a platform she is not particularly active on. She has not posted the apology statement on any of her other social media.

“Let me start by saying I’m sorry for my recent actions; it is inexcusable. I’m sorry to Jacksfilm, YouTube, the entire creator community, and my incredible fans for not being a better example for appropriate conflict resolution.

Jacksfilm, while we certainly don’t see eye to eye and have our differences, I am sorry for reacting the way I did when I should’ve taken the opportunity to show young creators how adults and professionals resolve conflict by communicating directly, respectfully, and privately; not for views or content, but a meaningful example of how conflict should be solved.

I will reach out directly and hope we can find some time to connect and communicate, respectfully. I’d also like to thank YouTube for holding me accountable. I deserve it, respect the decision and appreciate the opportunity to learn and grow from a true lapse in judgement.”

Creators called YouTube’s punishment a slap on the wrist

When YouTube’s statement came out along with SSSniperWolf’s apology, many creators came out and criticized YouTube’s punishment as favoring SSSniperWolf. The temporary monetization suspension is considered to be just a slap on the wrist. The Act Man, a creator demonetized after making a satirical joke on doxxing YouTube’s employees, has applauded YouTube’s action although he said SSSniperWolf deserves at least a ‘perma-ban’.

YouTube’s statement also aroused anger over their decision to condemn both creators in the incident. It didn’t elaborate more on what action YouTube would take against Jacksfilms if there were any.

Jacksepticeye replied to the statement on X, saying “Wait both sides? Criticism and parody are not the same as doxxing”.

Philip DeFranco also expressed his dissatisfaction with the statement on X.

“How the f*ck are they “both sides” equating SSSniperWolf putting another creator’s life in danger by showing up in the middle of the night and broadcasting the outside of their home to their millions of followers with Jack posting a bunch of videos critiquing and parodying her?!”

moistcr1tikal also commented on YouTube’s ‘both sides’ statementin his YouTube video. “I really can’t wrap my head around how they could even make it seem like Jacksfilms is even remotely in the wrong here.”

moistcr1tikal also called out SSSniperWolf’s light punishment, saying how YouTube has a chance to prove that they don’t play favorites. “But they didn’t. They were extremely slow and very clearly extremely reluctant to take even the slightest bit of action against her.”

Oompaville in his YouTube videocommented on the unclear rules of punishment on the YouTube platform. “It is unbelievable there is no uniformity or logic at all to the application of the terms of service.”

Can YouTube terminate accounts based on off-platform behaviors?

YouTube was known to be strict on its policies regarding content on its own platform. One of the concerns regarding the doxxing incident is how platforms were supposed to deal with behaviors that go against their policies on another platform.

It’sAGundam, known for his culture critic videos, said he lost monetization just because he uploaded multiple versions of his videos on other platforms. “YouTube operates like a caste system”,he posted on X. Another YouTuber known for his gaming guide videos, Rowby, also claims that his whole channel was demonetized because ofa seven-second copyrighted clip he posted eight years ago.

However, since the doxxing happened on Instagram and not on YouTube, the punishment for the action gets a little bit muddled. TheRealSullyG, a music artist YouTuber, contacted YouTube support about their policies on actions outside of their platform. The response stated that “YouTube is not allowed to meddle” if it is outside of their scope.

The response from YouTube support goes against theirCreator Responsibilitypolicies, which state that YouTube may take action to protect their community against creators who show harmful behavior on- and/or off-platform. There are a lot of cases where YouTube sentenced a temporary or permanent ban on creators for off-platform behaviors.

For instance, the family channels Channels 8 and ConneXions went through terminations following the arrest of Ruby Franke and Jodi Hildebrandt for charges of child abuse. Furthermore, R. Kelly’s official YouTube channel was terminated following his conviction for sex trafficking. There’s also a case of a series of tweets regarded as anti-Semitic by rapper Wiley, which resulted in the termination of his YouTube channel.

This precedence of actions taken against off-platform behaviors shows that YouTube has the right to terminate any channels based on behaviors they consider harmful.

Jackfilms has yet to comment or respond to Sssniperwolf’s apology. This could be the last we hear of the doxxing incident but it’s probable there will be further updates.
