Best of 2013
A great soundtrack can help make a great game legendary, and can even make a mediocre title memorable. In recent years, more emphasis has been put into crafting a noteworthy and fitting soundtrack for a game, and more composers have been receiving recognition for their work.
Music can be beautiful, ugly, calm, energetic, foreboding, soothing, or any number of other things, and when done well it can make a scene or a sequence just perfect. There were a lot of great examples of music done well in games this year, but we narrowed it down to the following ten.

And Destructoid’s best 2013 soundtrack is…
Super Mario 3D World
Delightful. That is the word to describe the soundtrack toSuper Mario 3D World. Put together by several different composers, including the legendary Nintendo music man Koji Kondo,3D World‘s soundtrack is upbeat, adventurous, nostalgic, and more. The updatedSuper Mario Kartmusic brought back great memories from twenty years ago, but that doesn’t mean the original compositions aren’t up to snuff.
Every track conveys its theme wonderfully, and each is truly sublime.

In the community poll,Far Cry 3: Blood Dragontook the top spot, withSuper Mario 3D Worldcoming in second, andBioShock Infinitecoming in third.
