Fallen stars

The Sunset Firefly is handy for mixing into Elixirs that make you move more stealthily. However, that’s probably not why you want to get your hands on some. No. There’s a specific quest you need Sunset Fireflies for, and it’s needed to get access to one ofthe great fairies. The quest is “The Flute Player’s Plan,” and it requires that you get your hands on 10 Sunset Fireflies to complete.

They’re not exactly easy to find. You have to be looking in the right spots and at the right time of day. You also need to know what you’re actually looking for. We can help you with all of those things.

How to get malaria

First things first, Sunset Fireflies only show up at night. Though they have “sunset” in their name, that’s not when they’re at their prime. You probably want to wait until around midnight. They also don’t show up when it’s raining. Being at the mercy of nature can be inconvenient, but those are the rules.

Now you just need to know where to look. You can scratch off anywhere too hot or too cold, which actually covers huge swaths of Hyrule. To be more specific, you should be checking in areas where there are both lots of trees and a bit of water. For an example, I headed out to Linebeck Island that is to the East of Hyrule Castle in a large body of shallow wetlands. However, they frequently appear in just about any wooded area with a bit of water.

Now that your knee deep in stagnant water in the middle of the night, take a peek around. You’re looking for little green glowing dots. Those are what you want to scoop up. You can run into groups of them, mashing the button, and probably get a few. However, they’ll likely just float up higher and out of your reach. Instead, it might be more prudent to sneak up on them, like you would with most insects or lizards you aim to catch.

Thankfully, it’s not too difficult to find large groups of them. You shouldn’t have to look too hard to fill your pockets with Sunset Fireflies and complete the quest.
